Faith-restoring in the ancient, decadent Beauty is in the eye of the beholder theory (while admitting most folks view beauty as skin deep only), pretty but short-assed Janeane Garofalo sets-up her new best-friend in Uma Thurman with Ben Chaplin, a sweet-but-simple guy Janeanes character fancies like madness. Muddling identities provide the laughs, and while THE TRUTH ABOUT CATS AND DOGS (named after the show radio vet Janeane presents) is perpetually sunny and seen in funny lights, with a conveniently cosy ending, it is down-to-earth and sassily realistic. Seen exclusively from Umas and Janeanes love-sick irises, it takes some convincing that dizzily endearing Uma was so voluptuously gun-toting and bright in Tarantinos 1994 crime-thriller Pulp Fiction, and while Umas legs turn sex-led heads (the scene where a bycyclist burns by her & wheelies coz shes so gorgeous, before nearly crashing into a car, is hilarious), its clearly Janeane whos going to ultimately come off a princess in her own cutesy right.
