| THE SLEEPY JACKSON - 'VAMPIRE RACECOURSE' (1-track promo/ 2003) The Sleepy Jackson, despite their name, will do nothing but re-awaken alternative indie rock music from any awaiting grave that may be lurking. Their nice and ripe 'Vampire Racecourse' boasts such a groovy beat and roving retro vibe I'm half the zombie I was at 3 o'clock this very morning, and I'm saluting The Sleepy Jackson songwriter Luke Steele's very existence. It's all non-offensive chirpiness, with minimal time or space dedicated to lyrics and instead more to the general alt-indie musical sound they are so effectively championing. One line that does stand out however is 'Your family's got one foot in the graveyard.' Now if that is prophetic, I might just wind up question their motives afterall. But in the meantime this super-slick outfit is just fine and dandy by me. (STEVE RUDD) www.thesleepyjackson.com |
