THE LOST BOYS MOVIE SOUNDTRACK
(1987/ 10 TRACKS)

And why ever cant I review this, the soundtrack to one of the coolest 80s movies me-reckons?! As soon as I saw THE LOST BOYS and its opening credits played over by Cry Little Sister I loved the movie and had to buy the soundtrack, even if there are a measly 10 tracks, including To The Shock of Miss Louises bonus fairground, 80 second waltz. INXS Good Times was later covered by Meatloaf on his Welcome to The Neighbourhood LP in the form of Runnin For The Red Light and is flabby soft-rock fun at its most over-produced, while Lou Gramms racy Lost in The Shadows is darker and ultimately frustratingly repetitive & overlong. The 2 classic anthems that are covered Dont Let The Sun Go Down On Me & People Are Strange are the most disappointing tracks despite the novelty value of Roger Daltrey singing Eltons epic ballad and Echo & the Bunnymen doing The Doors (with their People actually, and tellingly, produced by ex-Door-man Ray Manzarek). Beauty Has Her Way is the least cocky song and the most mellow and reflective, the Mummy Calls vocalist reminding of David Bowie. But its I Still Believe, complete with soulful sax screams, thats the standout track multi-layered with sizzling synths and magic. THE LOST BOYS soundtrack is, then, typically 80s. And for being a great soundtrack to a such a great tongue-in-cheek horror comedy, its an atypical LP that has to be heard. Says he.      (STEVE RUDD)
