| THE BLUNTS - 'KEEP IT TO MYSELF' (3-track demo/ 2003) It's time to party hard. The Blunts are here and are kicking serious black-blue arse. 5-dudes strong, their take on the music industry is exactly what the rock genre has been missing for so long: an all-out rock 'n' roll band sand-blasted with punk, metal and even pop influences who have fun in the process of playing their God-given music, as 'Keep It To Myself' revolves around singer/guitarist James Hudson's loud, raw and Andrew WK-inspired (?) vocal chant, Lee Jones' grand tribal drum-backing waking up the neighbours and keeping them awake for the duration of these 3 sheer quality songs. My personal fave is 'Life On Hold' with its hugely melodic chug. So The Beatles are alleged to have known the best way to write a classic, timeless pop song and whadya know, so do these Blunt boys. Even if the heavy but quirky and catchy sound is more reminiscent of the Murderdolls, if any band. Their base of Wolverhampton sure is lucky to have a rock band of this caliber who so professionally fuse the coolest bits of so many musical genres with ease. The resultant originality and vibrancy nods and winks admirably to bands like the awesome, underground Alt-metal heroes Phoenix Butterfly, as 'Primal Species' - sadly the final song on this CD - further rip-roars and hair-raises for their cause, the impenetrable rhythm section providing the heavy base sound for James, 2nd guitarist 'The Boy,' bassist Kev and keyboardist James O. to cleverly construct their melodies around, the gob-smacking guitar solos straight out of zee Guns 'n' Roses glory days: they are that STUNNING. Let's hope that The Blunts can start a new rock revolution. Because they are so, so fucking worth it. (STEVE RUDD) www.theblunts.com E-mail [email protected] Tel: Kev on 07929 478891 |
