| STATESIDE HOMBRES - 'HARD TIME STYLEE' (CONCEPT MUSIC) Interesting, very interesting. The Stateside Hombres fuse reggae, ska and flash dancebeats to mad effect and it works like a demon. And as they go they honestly sound to be creating a whole new and enticing hybrid of musical styles with 'Freak', that's taken from their 'Skank' album disco-reggae being the funky music-genre result of the Apache Indian/ CJ Lewis-styled vocals and the energetically upbeat, pop-pouting quirkiness involved. The highlight of the 2 remixes is the instrumental havoc-wrecker, though you can't beat the dance club-suited original version of 'Freak.' Incidentally, the shady Hombres (which is a 9-strong outfit) who are producing such vibrant a sound are led by ex-EMF mainman Milf. Which is interesting, very interesting And very, very good. 4/5 (STEVE RUDD) Release date October 13th 2003. |
