| SNOWBLIND 4 FROM THE FALLS (4-track sampler, expertly plugging summer 01s The Falls LP) Recent on-tour support for Wigans emotionally-meticulous Starsailor, the band name Snowblinds being wafted round the country with sky-high hopes. Debut single Cut came out April 9th as a precursor to their The Falls LP this summer, and if this 4-track samplers anything to go by, theyre going to indulge in the best of both pop and indie worlds. Cut makes you wonder whatever happened to similar indie-popstars The Motorhomes with its New Order sheen, while Easy Girl highlights Jane Murphys versatile voice in front of Paul Williams clean acoustic guitar You didnt want me it doesnt make any difference. Message For Glo seems a massive detour though, as its timelessly compelling piano melody suggests lonely alley-way walking through soft afternoon rain - but thats maybe just the drink talking! Sounds as though singer Janes Yorkshire-hailing, and theyre sure exploiting a poppier nonce than The Beautiful Souths Oft.-disappointing sense of abstract blandness (The Table? cmon!). Dubstar and St. Etienne would kill for all Snowblind have going for them. (STEVE RUDD) FOR PROMO USE ONLY! Try sign up for their mailing list on Heavenly Recordings, and you may just be lucky enough to get a sampler all of your own before potential shit hits the storm www.snowblind.uk.com |
