| SID STOVOLD POEMS (3-track demo) I cant relate to the world enough how much respect I hold for this guy in Sid THE man when it comes to gleaming advice for breaking into the underground music and poetry scene. Hes helped me no-end, and countless others. Once the guitarist in subculture pop-punk heroes Inter who came to an abrupt demise in 2001, hes now playing in the Aldershot-based Wherewithal band, all the while writing his wicked popart fanzine, organising & promoting gigs there at da West End Centre and releasing a series of vinyl-only, punk-inspired compilation albums. Oh, and in his spare-time hes a poet who deserves to be listened to, and a good friend to the equally-as-talented Colin Cross. Similar to Steve Juxta (AKA myself!) in his ways, here hes set three short poems in a squalid lo-fi mould, with Part One, Part Two pasting his robotic, surreally-effected words over murky guitar and a be-bop beat. Produced at home on his 4-track recorder, Surrealism Begins At Wasp is yet darker and more sinister via its effective use of a church organised melody and vocal echo, so while much of the actual poetry remains indecipherable, a menacingly involving atmosphere pervades and draws you startlingly into my fave track, Suddenly. I frantically dived for my phone, but it was the clever ring-tone intro that threw me, as Sid tell of his distaste for drink and all those people who worship it with broody Mogwai-buffered beauty. This short-but-neat selection is bit of a one-off and recordable by prior arrangement only from the master himself, but Sir Stovold says hes in the mood for making more so wait with baited breath yall. And if not for his poetic interludes, get in touch with this guy for a whole host of invaluable underground contacts should they so be desired.
