| PHLUID RELEASE (6-track mini-album/ CASKET) Leeds band Phluid have always been sublimely rock solid in their ways, as this 6-track beauty of a mini-album follows off infectiously where their 2002 debut album 'Cynical Smile teasingly left off. Their trademark Glam-punk-rock sound is retained to the catchiest degree throughout, as frontman Polly leads the vocals, a spring in both his step and throat. Intense opener 'L.O.V.E.D. U.P. rampages, its genuine punk spirit reminiscent of their older Stray Day anthem that characterized both their vibrant sound and admirable anti-apathy attitude circa their Y2K Cant Stop The Sliding EP. American Jihad is blatantly political and anti-Bush all the way (Here in the land of opportunity you can bomb your way into history), a perfect example of Pollys way with poetic words, before Cruci-Fiction hears these guys at their most poppiest, the guitar melody and subsequent heavy rock riff that kicks in fanned out flashily by guitar maestros Robbie G and Scottish. Over the past few years, Phluid have gigged all around the UK, and those who have seen the band have had no other choice but to love them. And however great they consistently sound on record, nothing can match the live Phluid experience that will grace a town near you only if youre very lucky. Anthemic all the way, Tastys highly-charged and sleazily sexed-up chug hammers their love for lust into the same league as Rachel Stamps and King Adoras music, whilst the coolly soaring moodiness of Walk Away (vibed in the way of Marc Almonds Tainted Love classic) and the epic exhilaration of closing track Libertine are perfect proof that Phluid indeed have an awesome rock sound all their own, and a sound thats ready for the taking and the savouring en-masse 5/5 (Steve Rudd) www.phluid.co.uk |
