MOON DAY SPEAKS (demo)
Moon Day Speaks are a 3-piece, London-based 'genius-rock' get-up. 'Genius-rock' in the sense that their approach to songwriting is incredibly original and utterly enthralling.
Fronted by the delectable Alex who knows how to contort and throw her voice as emotively as one can while playing the guitar at the same time (which she does), Alex and bassist/ backing vocalist Milly were the core of the band before they discovered drummer Jae's talents in late 2002.
Which is an extraordinary fact given the sound they create and the type of deep and meaningful Alt.-rock songs they have mastered already to stunning effect.
This demo proudly presents 'Ego Doll Hollow,' 'On The Tracks' and Baskets' heart-achingly sensitive melody and industrially-concise musical interlude that has Moon Day Speaks revel in the glory of sounding like an astounding cross between underground Glam-rock heroes Scarlet Soho and Irish melody-obsessives The Cranberries.
Here's a band fusing emotive guitar rites of passage both with lulling tenderness and slicing rock charges. The resultant, magical sound retains all the intrigue that bands such as Hole whip up, while reminding of fellow underground Alt.-rock bands in the throbbingly exhilarating veins of We Can Build You and The Bed.
To say Moon Day Speaks and their music are sexily compelling is a tragic understatement. Believe me and check these guys out ASAP.    5/5    (STEVE RUDD)
