MILF WITH YOU
(3-track demo)

Rousing rock trio Milf originate from Bradford and sound sensationally like Muse.
They recently performed an awesome live session on the BBCs infamous Raw Talent show (listen to 95.9 FM between 7 and 10pm every Thursday if you live in the Hull region if you happen to be none the wiser as to what thats all about) and have been tweaking their approach to songwriting since the bands inception at the dawn of this century.
Frontman singer/ guitarist and main songwriter Matt Higgins does sound as though hes seriously consulted Matt Bellamy for vocal coaching sessions, the demos opening track With You reeling in Higgins jagged riff and talk of broken promises. Sounds like he has girlfriend trouble of the most obsessive-compulsive sort, realising I am your equal and the only time I ever spent was with you. His words, not mine.
Both that track and Day By Day (I cant decide if I should be happy) have featured on the BBC site on merit alone, this second track further proving that Milf are a band fond of testicle-twisting melodies, hooks and pop-grunge. Higgins even flashes something of a deft guitar solo, as their sound reminds of The Revs and Eugene Speed, before the outstanding final track in This Silence which is the sure-fire highlight.
This Silence is hardly subtle or whispered in hush-tones. Instead, Matts magnificent voice twats planes as high as Jeff Buckleys had the ability to. And what do you know? There is also something of a poet in Matt (whos backed by Sam Leach on drums and bassist Paul Relton) as emotions toil, their far-flung Alt-Rock ambitions finally kick in and he sings Ive seen so much I cant hear at all.
But we can hear you, and exactly where you are coming from    8/10     (STEVE RUDD)
