| LOVECHILD - 'HOPE YOU HAVE A LOVELY DAY' (1-track demo/ 2003) Maybe it's the way I've been brought up, but surely every child is a lovechild - no? And if you think you've heard Lovechild's save-the-world sentiment somewhere before, you are right, you have but The Stereophonics did it nicer. This band is a mere duo, with David McClean doing the swooning while Luke Mathers riffs out a good old indie-rock tune of his guitar to make this song revel in anthemic bounce. And yes - I can deduce that from having heard a mere 5 seconds of this one song before my CD player screws-up all momentum for some reason. I can't imagine that it's a bad omen though, even if the repetitive lyrics are rather un-original. But it seems that originality is excused in any case when songs like this seep with happy-happy spirituality, as though they are sucking-up to the all-overpowering Polyphonic Spree. Check it 'Got a good feeling, it's so clear. Something in the air, feels like heaven. No need to hide, don't even fear. This is the time for our enjoyment.' Contentedness is a Godsend, and if Lovechild can go on producing life-coaching that is this vibrant then they can't really fail. It's good, clean, unadulterated pop. The perfect antidote to death metal and a tangible wish for peace in these troubled times. Now, I ask, how easy is that to market?
