An interview with LOSTPROPHETS guitarist MIKE LEWIS

HEY, HOW ARE YOU ALL?
Hey, yeah everyone is really good, super excited to be playing again and can't wait to get our album out.

ARE YOU GLAD TO BE BACK ON THE SCENE AND PLAYING LIVE?

Yeah totally, it felt like we were away forever. To me playing live is what being in a band is all about so its awesome to be back out there and playing the new stuff live. With touring before we were kinda sick of playing the old songs, now we've got a new record I can't wait to play the new shit live

HOW DID YOU APPROACH WRITING THE MATERIAL FOR YOUR SECOND ALBUM, 'START SOMETHING?' WHICH ALBUM WAS THE EASIEST AND/ OR THE MOST FUN TO WRITE?
It was done exactly the same way as our first record, just all of us in a room in Caerphilly jamming and working together. I think this one was definetely the most fun to write, after touring for so long, getting into the room and just letting all our ideas pour out was amazing. This one was a bit more difficult cos we were under a time limit to a degree, with our first one you have all the time in the world, but saying that this one wasn't hard to write, but more so than FSOP.

HAVING HEARD YOUR AWESOME NEW SINGLE 'BURN BURN' I THINK YOU'RE MORE MELODIC AND CATCHY THAN EVER. HAVE YOU GUYS MADE A CONSCIOUS EFFORT TO SOUND MORE 'POP-ROCK' THAN 'EMO-METAL' THIS TIME AROUND, OR AM I JUST HEARING THINGS?...
Nah we made no conscious decisions at all, we just let everything happen naturally. And Burn Burn is pretty different to the rest of the record, actually contradicting what I just said we did try and make this record very diverse, even more so that FSOP, so you'll get all kinds of shit on there!

DO YOU STILL THINK THE EMO-ROCK SCENE IS ALIVE AND KICKING WITH GENUINELY PASSIONATE BANDS RAMPAGING THROUGH THE RANKS OR DO YOU THINK THE NATION'S LOVE OF THAT KIND OF MUSICAL GENRE IS BEGINNING TO WANE?
I think its kinda gone the same way as nu-metal did, the bands that started it and the bands that pushed it into the people/media attention are still around, but they seemed to have spawned a million shit copycat bands and I think people will defo get fed up with that and move on to something else...but then theres the kids that were into it before it became big and they will stay.

WHAT ELSE HAVE YOU GUYS BEEN UPTO WHILE WRITING AND RECORDING YOUR SECOND ALBUM?
Haha not a lot really, that took up nearly all our time We've just been hanging out and seeing friends, going to see local bands and generally chilling out before we hit the road again.

DO YOU ALL STILL LIVE IN WALES OR HAVE YOU RE-LOCATED FOR THE GOOD OF YOUR MUSIC PROMOTION?
Nah we all live in Wales, still in the same town we always have. It makes no sense to move away at the moment, we'll be living on a tour bus for the next year or 2 anyways.

WHAT'S THE BEST THING ABOUT BEING IN THE LOSTPROPHETS, REALLY?
Getting to live my dream everyday, sounds cheesy I know, I always just wanted to play music and live my life around music and that what I'm doing...

HOW HARDCORE IS YOUR FANBASE, AND DO YOU EVER GET FREAKED-OUT BY SOME THINGS YOUR FANS MIGHT ASK OF YOU?
Haha - kids are pretty cool, they stand by us thru thick and thin and they got our backs....but yeah some fans are pretty crazy; theres a girl that comes to all our shows and cries, shes awesome, but sometimes that can freak you out...

IF ANYBODY READING THIS STILL HASN'T HEARD YOUR GUYS' MUSIC FOR WHATEVER REASON, WHAT ADVICE HAVE YOU GOT FOR THEM?

Go listen to it and forget what you've heard about us - just listen and keep an open mind, don't fall victim of fashion...
