| THE LOOSE CANNONS - 'SUPERSTARS' (HYPERLAUNCH) The Loose Cannons are an interesting outfit, here with a one-track single accompanied by 3 alternative versions of 'Superstars.' Surprisingly, the wistful vocals silkily laced over the dubiously dancey tune heartily remind of the heavenly backing vocals that featured on David Bowie's 'Thursday's Child' track. While Jamelia's 'Superstar' anthem is much more immediately catchy and boldly anthemic, these Loose Cannons' 'Superstars' instead hits you with its chilled, groovy, unassuming charm that's a damn fresh sound. Straddling R&B, Dance and Hip-Hop genres with earnest, the radio edit is far cooler than the original version, being sample and rap-based. And here's another instantly astounding thing about this single release: each one of its 'alternative versions' is highly varied in style. The single mix, indeed, is crazily upbeat yet the highlight is the last-but-not-least 'Pesky Kids' mix that features folk guitar licks making the most o' this sublime anthem's melody. This is well well well worth checking out, peeps. (Steve Rudd) www.theloosecannons.com |
