'JEEPERS CREEPERS 2'
When will dumb Americans ever learn? I mean, have they any common sense or will to employ intuition in times of blatant crisis? When it comes to them 'appearing' in horror movies it seems not. But, I guess, that just adds to the fun
'Jeepers Creepers' was one of the coolest horror-thrillers of 2001, and 2 years on the sequel picks up where the original open-ended beast left off.
Closing in on 'The Creeper' (an evil and psychotic winged creature) that feeds - so it's deduced - for 23 days every 23rd Spring, 'The Creeper' is still hungry after polishing off a basement of unfortunate folk in the first movie. This time it's much easier though, when a bus-load of basketball jock-straps and cheer-leading gals break down in the middle of nowhere, and the Creeper wastes no time in terrorising the stranded kids naughtily sneaking up to the windows and scaring them from outside before it becomes ravenous enough to put the windows of the bus through to begin plucking some of the kids out one by one, tooth by tooth, limb from limb - and primarily those of the crew who are acting the most scared.
The shocks are all routine, though the few scenes when the Creeper dashes through neck-high cornfields in pursuit of potential victims are pant-stained with exhilarating menace. Director Victor Salva, just like with the first flick, has opted for a cast of unknown actors and actresses - and all cope well with the simultaneous bouts of action and incidental comedy.
The one drawback may be that there is no new twist to the story, and while the premise of a giant winged devil-fucking monster that repulsively eats innocent humans is pretty damn scary in itself, the story writers will have to come up with a more substantial plot for the seemingly inevitable third movie in the series.
