| JANES ADDICTION TRUE NATURE (EMI) Quit the fags, stuff the drugs. Hell, you might even want to abstain from sex in favour of Janes Addiction. One of the most enduring US rock bands of the past two decades, their 2003 comeback has been a major success and then some, which has culminated in performances at this years Fashion Rocks gala - from the Royal Albert Hall - and on various high profile TV shows. Following-on from their Just Because single, this is yet another classic rock anthem to be thankfully lifted from the bands Strays album that stated with no hesitation that theyre back as bold as ever and determined to make a go of making tuneful rock music again. Fronted as-ever by Perry Farrell (an awesome frontman if ever there is one), his ethereal vox - layered over the cool upbeat rock riff, rocketing guitars, steady U2-esque drumming and another quality bout of sublime energy - ensures True Nature stays true to their songwriting roots and pleases on all levels. This is the opening track on the album, and fit for any rock-obsessed king with its note-perfect production. Hell, theres no wonder the bands Halloween gig at Brixton Academy sold out in mere minutes with material this good. (Steve Rudd) |
