By Jove are Jane's Addiction back with a vengeance - not to sound too camp. My God is this tune in 'Just Because' a straightforward rock 'n' roll anthem the good old fashioned way one should be written, recorded and produced. Mind you, Jane's Addiction have long written textbook example rock songs and have pioneered structured blueprints that have provided inspiration to countless other bands who have come and gone all the while this band have been hammering their talents out to the masses regardless.
Jane's Addiction were one of the surprise guests at last year's 'Carling Weekend' (along with their old compadres Guns 'n' Roses of course), and everyone wondered just what they were up to then, spitting out the old cobwebs and resuscitating their passion for truly emotive rock 'n' roll.
Fronted by Perry Farrell, he's always convincingly pulled the strings - and yet there are no strings-attached to this song whatsoever. This is surging and upbeat, and a tune rigged for lavish renditions on the big-stage� which I'm sure we will see en-masse if and when this band get back into the rigorous trials and tribulations of the touring lark once again if they really do mean business in trying to re-establish themselves as one of the leading bands on planet rock.
They've sure got the capacity, and old man Perry has sure got the voice that could soulfully catapult the moon into martyrdom.
'You really should have known' sings he� but know what exactly I'm still not sure. Know this though, people: 'Just Because' is from their brand spanking new album 'Strays' (out July 2003), and is produced by Bob 'a-legend-in-his-own-right' Ezrin.
And just you listen, and listen close. Because man, do the high-rising vibes here spookily remind of the magical sounds that our very own Leeds lads The Music produce. So be warned, because - though they aren't quite as live-wire, mad and vocally OTT as bands such as The Darkness - Jane's Addiction are one hell of a rock band who are ready to mock any non-believing peers who live to lick posterior.
