| JAMELIA SUPERSTAR (single/ PARLOPHONE) Pump up the Jamelia, this funk-fondled pop number is ridiculously entertaining and is hopefully destined to make this girl the superstar she so seemingly deserves to be. Amazingly, Jamelia has been to my hometown of Driffield before where she 'played' a gig at the Secondary School as part of a tour of schools she participated in (which is semi-common for up-and-coming popstars with something to prove), and now this track houses the potential to transform hers into a household name as 'Superstar' cleverly ropes in a perfectly bubbling melting pot of musical genres. R & B lovers will lunge for it, all the while the vibe reminds of the disco genius of Michael Jackson's late 70s heyday and his Rock With You smash in particular. Still, this is sensually contemporary sounding and if Girls Aloud are allegedly one of the finest producers of pop music right now, then they better look out and think sharp now Jamelia is on the scene. Unassuming, she sings I dont know what it is that makes me feel like this. Oh, the title of this anthem of brilliance is so a great omen. 8/10 (STEVE RUDD) Release date: September 15th 2003. www.jamelia.com |
