| INSANIAC - 'INSANIAC' (5-track demo/ 2002) Insaniac are pretty well known dudes in Norwich after this here demo rode high in Radio One's unsigned punk-rock chart. The track that got these classic pop-punkers noticed is opening track, and the strongest, 'Apologies.' Maybe it's the chorus that caught the listeners' attention, as catchy as it is as singer/ guitarist Errol tells us he told his Ex straight 'She said apologetically she didn't mean to say the things she said to me. I just said I think it's over.' There's no babyish smut (I'm thinking Blink 182 and their obnoxious playmates), just full on rattling punk, the eponymous Insaniac track's heavier chug reminding of classic Offspring coolness. Rick plays bass, while drummer Ferret completes this 3-piece. And Errol is one mean guitarist, rocking out in various, show-off musical interludes and solos that suggest he may be something of a Manic Street Preachers fan in his spare time. 'Same Shit' wields another, heavier metal riff, yet remains bound by steadfast punk. Punk that is more spirited than a well-endowed country pub haunted by a troupe of hard-drinking headless ghosts. Punk that is more sublime than any pop punk I've heard in ages. I'd defy any lover of this type of music to overlook Insaniac, because Insaniac are wicked.
