IDENTITY
Ive been watching too many movies for my own sanity lately and have somehow, miraculously, managed to see 5 films at the flicks in 7 days. The Matrix Reloaded I have reviewed, though Dumb & Dumberer, Anger Management and Basic I aint.
I HAVE GOT TO discuss Identity however, as it is an absolute masterpiece of modern movie making oh, and the voices are telling me to do so!
Directed by maverick James Mangold, its leading man is John Cusack, and hes supported by the man with the ever-threatening presence Ray Liotta.
Identity first and foremost totally messes with your mind, from the scene go! Inter-cutting minute flashbacks when introducing the prime characters, you dont know whether or where exactly the story is coming or going.
To cut its awesomely suspenseful twists and terrifying turns short, a bunch of random strangers coincidentally shack up together at a remote motel in the middle of the Nevada desert as a storm rages all around and cuts them off from the outside world. And to make the tension yet more unbearable, Liotta is a cop whos transferring a murderer who has just happened to escape, rampaging round the motel and killing those who cross him.
But not all is as it seems, as this dark gloom-mongering movie cleverly weaves in supernatural possibilities when subsequent deaths take place that are totally inexplicable especially seen as the murderer himself somehow winds up with a baseball bat rammed down his throat to grotesque effect.
The movie initially sets out in a similar way to cult thriller Red Rock West (with John Cusack surreally reminding of Nicholas Cage in his sometimes worryingly laid-back reaction to certain situations), though ultimately movies like the awesome Fight Club rampage to mind if vague comparisons are to be made to any similarly stirring films. Identity also manages to bear something in common with that other Brad Pitt classic Seven dont ya know  because it doesnt stop raining once throughout!
Far from Identity being dull though, this is top-notch cinema with one massive, jaw-droppingly executed twist just waiting in the wings to shock the fuck outta yall Mark my words. You will be scared.
