| HYPER HYPER GIRL LOVER - EXCLUSIVE PROMO (3-track promo/ 2003) Coolly distro-ing a promo weighing in little over 7 minutes long, put your hands together for the mighty Hyper Hyper Girl Lover alt.-rock quartet. And then put on your dancing shoes. Not that they 'do dance' nor do they 'do metal' as such. These guys, fronted by nice guy Paul Fryer, straddle multiple niches, anchored primarily in a pacy punk-rock fold with hints of Glam running in line to keep up. Each cut here may only be on average 2 and a half minutes long, but what this exclusive promo lacks in quantity it makes up for in sheer quality - as the glorious opening anthem 'Scared of Going Home' catapults sublimely into the darker, broodier 'One More Chance' that fleetingly minics a certain King Adora-duped scowl along with knowing nods to Placebo and their emotive music. But is Hyper Hyper Girl Lover's music suited to the masses? In short, hell yeah as the paranoid 'Fear of Falling' with the lyric 'I'm so afraid of heights' is reassuringly counter-balanced by the very final few words heard on this demo - 'I am still here.' Indeed. And by the sounds of this promo, this band will be still be here for a long while to come, now featuring as it does one of the sexiest women in guitar rock, Vanessa White, who used to play in Twist. What's more, they could come to a town near you come this May/ June time in promotion of 'a single,' possibly made-up by these very promo tunes themselves. Tattoo & piercing-obsessed frontman Paul also sounds to be organising such a tour, and if there are any decent opportunities for them to play a gig somewhere near you, get in touch and you never know the sultry HHGL clan could be clamouring for glamour round your way more thrillingly than a complimentary sit on an electric chair.
