| HAVEN TELL ME (single/ VIRGIN) Summers here and time is right for a trip down memory lane and a holiday in the sun courtesy of Haven. Not a season too soon, Gary Briggs and his hairy Manc pals return on the back of their awe-inspiring Let It Live debut album and much quality time spent trying to crack America while trying not to let the adulation showered on them go to their heads and sether their sanity to shreds. The good news is theyve kept their cool (due in no small part to their legendary manager in Joe Moss I bet), and while the lads claim to be returning with something of a different and refined sound, youll be pleased to know that nothing much has changed in their approach to poring all their heart and soul into writing the most epic of guitar-drenched love songs. Tell Me is the first evidence we have, and the first single theyre releasing from their second album. As expected, this is yet another anthem dying to find a home in the hugest stadium in the world. This is as great as swooning soft-rock gets, though its neither soppy nor staunchly sentimental. While perfectly polished in a way that Def Leppard would be proud of, this track further goes to show that Haven have succeeded in hacking out a trademark sound for themselves. A sound that genuinely is sublime music to the ears - jovially incorporating ye olde blood, sweat and tears. 4/5 (STEVE RUDD) |
