| ENGERICA TRICK OR TREAT? (WRATH RECORDS) Engerica, despite being a bastard of a band name to pronounce if youre dyslexic, and their storming rock n roll sounds of a bright future cant fail to wow you, as this singles zany title track energetically roars out of the stereo as if System of A Down, The Offspring and Rachel Stamp are throwing one hell of a raucous party together. Its dark, Glam-punk inspired and heavy riff blessed - which makes for a ruddy brilliant and vibrant yet somewhat crazy sound. Dave Gardner on guitar and vox sings Give me something nice to eat. But Id rather listen to track 2, My Demise, which is more upbeat in an Ima Robot/ Placebo vein, the Mclusky-styled chant chorus making this the catchiest song here. Oh no: you cant deny Engerica their huge ambitions, thats for sure. Crooked Sex is both the final track and the reason for that, as Mike Websters bass-run intro ultimately makes cause for this song to unfold into a post-contemporary, Goth-metal classic. And that, my friends, is all you need to know. 4/5 (STEVE RUDD) Release date: 8th September 2003. www.engerica.com www.wrathrecords.co.uk |
