| DELTA SAINT DESERT RACER EP (NORTHERN LIGHTS MUSIC) Delta Saint are desert racing with their debut release, which straight out of the stalls reminds of girlie bands The Lollies and We Start Fires. Fronted by Paula on vox and guitars, Delta Saint reside on a record label of Paulas own creation in Northern Lights Music, and boy does this girl know how to bring a wad of cool rock guitar riffs to life, as on EP-opener Ode To The Bandit. The 2 mid-EP tracks are the greatest. Did The Devil Take Your Soul casually bleeds Alt.-pop broodiness, backed by Kays bullet-dodging bass and Martins essential drum jollies. Paulas lead guitar roars with vigour, as on the truly tuneful, charmingly twee, distinctively Delta Saint-sounding and so poppily-rocking Backwards View that sees a relationship-turned-sour in retrospect, Paula wearily lamenting, hey We can rant and rave all night but Ill win. Trailblazer sees out this EP with its bass-anchored, paranoid pop-grunge instrumental, slyly redeeming any sins this band may have stashed under their guitar amps. Having played at 2003s Ladyfest and In The City weekends, I would say remember where you heard the name Delta Saint first (i.e., here) but then those of you who were there will have probably already heard of these guys. So Ill shut up. 4/5 (Steve Rudd) Release Date: October 6th 2003 Read an interview with the band here and then make a dash for the sites below... www.deltasaint.co.uk www.northernlightsmusic.co.uk |
