| DAI LO THE CONSTANT THREAT OF ACCIDENTS (COPRO RECORDS/ 13-track album) Dai Lo ooze the most resplendently rocking dayglow. Fracturing from the mainstream obsession with Emo-metal with pride, these 4 young dudes with these amazing 13 songs sound set to totally re-define the parameters of whats truly rock; and whats not. Dai Lo honestly sound as though theyre one of the most original rock bands Ive ever heard on account of this debut album of theirs, recorded in their hometown of Nottingham after having made a name for themselves playing around the country with King Prawn, Defenestration, Tung (RIP) and Earthtone 9 amongst other awesome bands. Far from being an accident, this album is musical precision in all its glory and the variety between each and every single song is astounding. There is not one filler song here to bolster their package and every last note is worth its weight in spacedust, singer Shaun Bailey and friends proving theyre mature beyond their years. Right from the album-opening Vigilante, Baileys vocals are the focal point and theres no wonder hes been compared to Faith No More madman Mike Patton. While Dai Lo are hugely angsty, the vocals thankfully refrain from screaming and shouting. Baileys super-strength voice is succulently soulful throughout, while the songs choruses uplift through being so sublime. Check out House of Cards first up for proof, and then one of the album highlights in the incredible Devils Prize, as Shauns war of words tunefully rampages on into the flawlessly awe-inspiring and epic-nature of Irresistible Force Vs. Immovable Object. Who knows if the band itself fully realises their importance in the UK rock scene, but they are most definitely forging a hugely exciting niche of their own. None of their songs have been written or are performed here by halves, with the briefly intense and mosh-tastic musical Interlude, the anthemic Feeder-esque zest of Have It Your Way and Close - which hears the vocals at their finest - sealing this bands unique stance on the music scene. This album is without a doubt a must-hear, must-feel masterpiece - for the futures inevitably as bright as can be when played to the overtly passionate strains of the Dai Lo experience 5/5 (STEVE RUDD) Release Date: September 22nd 2003 www.dai-lo.co.uk |
