CUBIC SPACE DIVISION CUBIC SPACE DIVISION
(album/ UNDERGROOVE RECORDS)
Of all bands to thunder out of Kent (?), this quartet has to be most exhilarating and harsh.
Fronted by Jamie Floate, who served Earthtone 9s influential cause for a while, Cubic Space Division leave no time for hesitation.
The dark Emo-pherics of opening track Red Shift tantalize to a deadly degree before exploding in your face, and these guys are pretty hardcore right the way through the album, though there are some incredible moments of chilled-out bliss as on Bohemian Grooves tender intro & sexy soundscape, and on Camber.
But when theyre heavy, they aint heavy theyre heavier!! Well, they are on Per Se as the dual vox engross the raspingly rough with the smooth(er) to give SOAD a thump in the metal intensity stakes.
So they can be as violently confrontational as a pissed John McEnroe just woefully denied Tournament point at Wimbledon AND as poignant as childhood photos seem on ones deathbed. But thats not all, with the Gothically moody Silhouette following the album highlight A Plane Without Surface, the latter being the most melodic track, and by sheer coincidence the most soulfully uplifting thats anthemic in a pop-rock vein. Hell, in this instance CSD could even steal Nickelbacks thunder.
Still, they sound to more enjoy metal at its loudest with the vocals spat out 20-to-the-dozen and the guitars cranked to the max tank. In turns churning passionate music both brutal and beautiful, they would be perfect tour-buddies for South Yorkshire hardcore metal-shrieks Purple Sticky Punch.
