Hey, how are things - and who are CHASER?
Chaser were summoned by the underwater God Neptune, and from the depths of hell arose four fearless warriors whose mission was to slay all other bands!Things are fine thanks (Tom)
Oh.I thought we were just four guys in an Indie/rock Band!??(Don)
Chaser are:- Ashley (Gash) Lawson-guitar/vocals
Tom (Tommy Boy) Robinson-Lead guitar/screechy vocals
Nick (Whiteboy) English-bass/babe magnet
Don (Mullet) Steel-Drums/ out of tune backing vocals

You are based in the small Yorkshire town of Driffield. Is that a good or a bad thing?

Nick (N): Bad in the way that there arent many big venues to play at.
Tom(T): But the buzz is great when the bands pull together and perform at gigs like the festival.
Don (D): There is a great amount of talented musicians in Driff considering its size, plus everyone knows you, or your Sisters Brothers Aunties Uncle.

You play both cover songs and original material. Which do you prefer?
(D): Chaser's original concept was friends playing covers of their favourite songs, having fun and getting laid lots. I personally like to pull a cover off well and get the audiences response to it
(T): But there comes a time when you have to do something of your own and create a sound that you like
(A): I prefer doing our own material! Covers are fun for a while, but then you get to a stage where you want to see what we are capable of!

How did you guys all first get together as a band, and why did you call yourselves CHASER?
(N): Gash and the original guitarist Craig Armstrong formed the band in 1995.
(D): I used to do Karate with Nick and Craig who were leaving to form a band. My Father had just died and I thought of all the things I wished Id done, so I said to Craig, if I buy a drum kit, can I play?  A week later 150 changed hands with a French Student (probably called Pierre!) for the Pearl drumkit and I taught myself to hit them in various random patterns!
(N): I joined not long after, and Craig left as the pressure of stardom and stalkers got too much. Various Axe Gods came and went, untill the legend in his own lunchtime that is Tom Robinson fell into our laps.
(D): Or was he pushed!?
(A): The name Chaser came when Nick and I were out on a Beverley Drinkfest and saw an advert for Whisky Chasers and thought Whisky would be a great name for a band!!!

What kind of music is your favourite kind of music, or do you all have interests in different styles of music?

(A): I think between us all we have pretty varied tastes, but on the whole we like to rock!
(N): I like stuff like Radiohead and Blur.
(D): And Muse cos they sound like Radiohead!!
(N): These bands influence me.
(D): Being a biker I like Heavy Rock and Nu-metal, hence the tag Mullet, but when you look thru my C.D collection there all sorts of shier varied sounds in there!! My mood will determine if its Classical, Cheesy Listening or 70's Glam rock that will go on the Marantz!!
(T): You could say we rock in an Indieish kind of way!

Out of all the great cover songs you play, is there one that you can single out as being your favourite?
(N): I like Californication
(A): It varies from week to week depending on my mood. At the mo I like doing the Hives Hate to say I told you so
(T): Yellow without a doubt the best song ever!
(D): As a collective it would be Yellow, but I get a kick from playing Wide open space.

What do you think of the other bands in and around Driffield?

(A): I havent seen many local bands lately, but I cant think of any that blow me away!
(N): Yeah and some of them can be a bit Egotistical!
(T): They do their stuff well like we do ours, but I do wish some of the bands would be a bit more down to earth!  None of us are Rock Gods yet!!
(D): I do try to get on with the other bands, there are some great lads out there and we need to look out for each other!  Some good bands have come and gone, but at one time it seemed like every band was a F*@k Band as we call them!  You know the type, hands strangling the mic and shouting FUCK in a deeply disturbed voice!! Like Tom says, they do their shit, well do ours!  I think the Sonnets Stuff is really good, but after reading their interviewwell

Have you recorded any of your own songs yet, and if so, how can we get hold of a CHASER CD?
(A): There is an extremely rare demo tape hidden in a vault: 10,000 and it's yours!
(T): I think the latest bid on Ebay is 89p
(N): We recorded a demo about 3 years ago but it was a bit rushed and we werent happy with it!
(D): Oh bollocks - that was my bid!!
(T): Not long after I left the band, so were working towards a new one.

What's the best thing about being in CHASER?
(A): The adrenalin rush you get on stage when a gig's going well is a unique feelingfree beer's quite good too! (D): The Girls, the Lear Jet and free entry intoer..Tesco's!
(T): Im honoured and privileged to play in a band with 3 of the greatest guys in the world.
(N): Creep!!
(D): Yeah, the chemistry between us is great!  We get on so well together in and out of the band!

And, ahem... what's the worst?
(T): WellAhemsometimes I get sick of all the buggery, rape and pillage that goes on!
(D): That allegation was never proven!!
(A): Setting up, packing up and feedback from the mics.
(D): Yeah, they keep saying were shit!

What have CHASER fans got to look forward to?
(A): We are knuckling down and concentrating on our own material at the moment and moving away from doing covers, so these will be road-tested @ a Mavericks near you soon.
(D): Check press for details!
(A): After that, Albums, International tours and Tabloid stories of Russian prostitute orgies..!
(D): Weve been busy with private gigs and the Festival (thanx Jonny & Claire) and weve got 2 gigs at Bishop Burtons Freshers Week coming up, but after that we want to do some gigs at Mavs and the Springhead in Hull.
(T): And death to the weaker bands from the true Gods of Mullet Rawk!!!!!
Oh yeh! - Ed.
