| BUZZKILL - 'EP' (4-track EP/ 2002) I've died and gone to heaven. I've bin Buzzkill'd. This Yorkshire-based 5-piece trail-blaze THE fastest, meanest, coolest rock 'n' roll with manic angular twists at every turn, deafening themselves in King Adora-sized exhilaration that also reminds of the blast-off quality of Space Race's music, as the vocals on 'Mr. Furious' ('I don't feel like myself') are the first evidence that the Buzzkill singer has a grippingly fab voice. There's more of a Rachel Stamp-branded Glam-punk pout to the winning 'Casino,' and it's hard to believe that a band from Yorkshire really can pull off a huge, haywire sound like this, that isn't too dissimilar to the violently controlled aural mayhem that The Vines and the mad Hives hit out. Cramming 4 stonking songs like this into a mere 10 minutes is no mean feat, yet 'Big City Taxi' confirms that there's no end to their energy as the awesomely loud and ear-lacerating attitude that's clawing out of the stereo speakers is no sooner out of the previous song and into the final track, the wicked 'I'll Take The Alcohol' that free-wheels its way in top gear right to the end totally inhibitionless, with no time or need for any bullshit along the way. These guys boldly and proudly produce the soundtrack of an unadulterated rock riot. And in this instance 'Buzzkill' and 'breathtaking' really do have to be yelled in the same breath.
