AUDRA & THE ANTIDOTE
1. HI AUDRA... SO, YOU ARE THE SINGER/ GUITARIST IN YOUR BAND 'AUDRA & THE ANTIDOTE.' COULD YOU PLEASE TELL US MORE ABOUT THE BAND? Well, what's there to tell? We are three women and one man who play 80's influenced neo-new wave pop/rock. We've been on national TV opening for Creed and Godsmack, and in the Top 10 for the very first American Music Awards' New Music Award. Last year we were named one of the three top unsigned bands in Nashville by Music Row Magazine. That in itself is a big deal because there are TONS of bands here. 2. YOU'RE FROM NASHVILLE. DON'T PEOPLE EXPECT YOU TO PLAY COUNTRY & WESTERN MUSIC?... No, not so much any more. I mean, we don't *look* country at all, do we? Usually people just say "I can't believe you guys are from Nashville." However, like I said there is a HUGE scene here with all sorts of bands. They all have great songs too because the competition here is so stiff. It's really Music City USA, *not* Country Music City USA.
3. HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR MUSIC, AND JUST HOW 'BIG' ARE YOU OVER IN THE US? We decribe ourselves as a cross between Lucious Jackson and Veruca Salt... or 80's influenced female fronted pop/rock.. or whoever has the best quote at the moment :-). We are an indie band who exists primarily on the internet and our fans span across the globe.
4. WHAT HAVE BEEN THE HIGHS AND LOWS OF YOUR GLAMMY ROCK 'N' ROLL CAREER? As I mentioned above, our highs have been being flown to LA to play on a nationally televised TV show (Farmclub - now cancelled), and being flown to NYC to compete as part of the Top 10 in the 1st American Music Awards New Music Award. Our lows have been not getting accepted into a local music conference even after being named one of the top 3 bands in the city that same year!!!
5. DO YOU THINK THAT WRITING MELODIES AS CATCHY AS YOU DO IS OTHERWISE A LOST ART? I.E., WHY AREN'T THERE MORE BANDS LIKE YOU? Lost art, no. I think there are plenty of bands out there who write great, catchy songs but for some reason the record companies aren't interested in them so the world doesn't hear their music on a large scale. It's really a shame. Major labels have never been interested in us and to this day I have no idea why.
6. HAVE YOU EVER BEEN ACROSS HERE TO THE UK TO PLAY AND, IF NOT, WOULD YOU UP FOR THAT SOMETIME?... I have never been to Europe though I day dream about it a lot. I would love to visit and if things keep going in the US like they have been maybe I'd even move!
7. WHAT, EXACTLY, IS 'THE ANTIDOTE'? Our smart lyrics and catchy melodies, of course ;-)
8. YOU RECENTLY RELEASED YOUR AWESOME 'HELLO?' ALBUM. HAVE YOU BEEN PLEASED WITH THE FEEDBACK THAT THAT HAS RECEIVED? The feedback that we have gotten has all been positive. It's a little odd... I would like to hear a negative comment every now and then ;-)
9. HOW THE HELL DO YOU START OUT FROM HUMBLE BEGINNINGS TO BUILD UP A FANBASE AND LOYAL FOLLOWING IN A COUNTRY AS IMMENSE AS AMERICA? I don't know! ;-) Yes, this country is a very very big place. We have done almost all of our promotion through the internet and have gotten a couple lucky breaks here and there. You can't do it withouth lucky breaks, you really can't.
