Sculptures & Mannequins When I was in Florence I was constantly recognizing a duality between modern florence and it's rich artistic history. I tried to capture that schizm with photos contrasting the time-worn sculptures of the renaissance with modern day people and mannequins, which are omnipresent in the city's fashion-conscious center.
Industrial Landscapes Don't ask me why pictures of junkyards and oil refineries, old train tracks and empty lots speak to me. Perhaps it is because the Bay Area landscape is literally being overhauled with rich hotels, homes, and dot-com-panies. The run-down, old relics which remain provide a stark contrast to the gentrification process. Living here I have learned to find beauty in these decrepit monuments to the modern era.
Las Vegas What I like about Las Vegas is that each casino has a theme. You have cheesy glitter and sparkle versions of places like New York, Egypt, or Venice- all within a mile of each other. Each casino exaggerates the reality of its subject matter to such a degree that it is like walking through a huge, adult cartoon. It sure allows for some interesting interpretations of world history!
