The Magnificent Seven : The Movie
Ok, so here's the deal, when I begged my mother to buy the movie, I was under the impression that it was the same Seven as in the show. I even figured out who was who on the back of the case. When I finally saw the movie I was a little disappointed. And then I watched it again. And again. While the characters may not be the same, I think it's still worth a look.
The first thing you gotta know is that some of the characters are kinda the same. Take for instance Chris. In the movie, he's a gunfighter dressed entirely in black. In the show - black clothes abound. In the movie, Chris is the wise leader. Show? Ditto. However, in the movie, Chris is Cajun. It's not just mentioned in passing, the man has an accent. In the show, he's from Indiana (or so I hear). Also, in the movie, Chris is played by Yul Brynner. What does that matter? Well, he's bald. In the show, Chris is played by  that delightfully handsome blonde, Michael Bein.
And then you got Vin. I like Vin, in both the show and the movie. In the movie though, he seems less grown up and less alone. He's also kind of a skirt chaser. Despite that, I think he's still my favourite, even if he isn't a brooding tracker like in the show. In the movie, Vin is played by Steve McQueen while in the show, he's played by Eric Close (yum!)
Sorry to say, but those are the only two in the movie. There is of course a kid, a fancy dressed dude and a knife thrower but they have different stories and different names. I was a little disappointed, but I've managed to seperate the movie universe from the show universe in my mind so all is good.
The Movie Seven
Chris - played by Yul Brynner
Vin - played by Steve McQueen
Chico - palyed by Horst Buchholz
Harry Luck - played by Brad Dexter
Bernardo O'Reilly - played by Charles Bronson
Brit - played by James Coburn
Lee - played by Robert Vaughn
The Magnificent Seven, left to right:
Chris, Vin, Chico, O'Reilly, Lee, Harry, Brit
In case you didn't know, the seven actually did return in three other movies: Return of the Seven, Guns of the Magnificent Seven and one other.
Unfortunately, only one of the original seven actually returned. Yul Brynner played Chris in the first sequel.
I have yet to see the others, but I hear they ain't too good.
