Diesel vs. Lex Luger Intercontinental Title Match
Yokozuna vs. 1-2-3 Kid
Bret/Bulldog vs. Owen/Anvil
Doink vs. Jeff Jarrett
Diesel/HBK vs. Razor Ramon/1-2-3 Kid Tag Team Title MatchDiesel vs. Lex Luger
Lockups to test power, but neither guy can get an advantage. We tried it before, so let's do it once more. Sunset flip by Luger gets 2. Lots of walking around here. Big Kev offense in the corner, foot choke. Whip reverse, Luger powerslam gets 2. Luger's superfake punches send Diesel out to consult with Shawn. You know, Luger was supposed to be the next Hogan, but how could anybody get into Luger, a guy with a chiseled and impressive physique, when he threw the absolutely girlyest and weakest punches in the biz. Anyway.....Diesel goes for the Jacknife, but Luger back body drops him. Charge of the stupid and Luger goes outside. Slam on the floor by Diesel, and Shawn helps out with a clothesline. We get clippage and come back to a sleeper. Oh joy. Luger powers out, but Diesel slaps it right back on. Shawn is over by the timekeeper screaming for him to RING THAT BELL!!!!! Seriously, no joke, those are almost his exact words. Belly to back by Luger. Punches and a couple clotheslines can't put Diesel down. Luger ducks the big boot and hits a DDT for 2. Flying clothesline gets 2. Diesel hits the big boot this time and the ref gets bumped. Torture Rack but Shawn breaks it up with the superkick. Ref gets up but Diesel only gets 2. Trading punches and Razor comes out for the double DQ. ** Crowd is hot at that ending, but the match didnt totally suck or anything.
Yokozuna vs. 1-2-3 Kid
Just so everybody knows, I was actually pissed off the first time I watched this match, for a reason I cannot now recall. Since I was unduly harsh, I erased the crappy two lines I originally assigned to this, so without the benefit of play by play (since I didn't feel like it), I present you with **1/2.
Bret/Bulldog vs. Owen/Anvil
Hart Foundation members collide!!!! Bret and Owen start with a lockup that goes nowhere, but Owen celebrates like he just won the fucking lottery. Just awesome. HUGE Owen sucks chant. A nice mat submission sequence ends in a hammerlock for Bret. Crucifix for 2, and back to the hammerlock. Elbow out, rope sequence, and Bret hits a monkey flip and clotheslines Owen outside. BLATANT clippage as we come back with Anvil and Bulldog in the ring. Come on Coliseum, at least TRY!!!! Side headlock, and Owen comes in to beat ass. European uppercut and legdrop, but Bulldog kicks out easily. Owenziguiri and heel double teaming in the corner. Anvil in, and Bulldog desperately fights for the tag. Owen quickly taunts Bret and he gives chase until Owen slips in and hits the Hart Attack on Bulldog, and Bret breaks up the count at 2.. Beautiful sequence there. More heel beating, and Owen hits a neckbreaker. Chinlock and Bulldog elbows out and hits a shoulderblock. False tag to Bret, but Owen accidently dropkicks Anvil. Hot tag for real now to Bret and he EXCELLENTLY EXECUTES Owen for 2 counts. Sharpshooter is broken up by Anvil. Pier six, Bulldog gets a small package on Owen, and Anvil and Bret takes turns flipping them over until Bulldog finally gets the 3. *** Superhot crowd for this one and a very solid match.
Doink vs. Jeff Jarrett
We pick this up in mid-match as JJ is pounding Doink. Hiptoss and slam, and Doink gets a drop toe hold and side headlock. JJ comes back with an abdominal stretch, using the ropes like a good heel. We hold this for a LONG time until we get a back elbow and flying forearm. The King's midgets (just read, try not to understand, it's better) kick Doink around, and Doink's midgets come out to respond. Clippage. Dropkick by JJ for 2. LONG chinlock by JJ. Doink comes back with a slam, but an elbow misses. SLEEPAHHHHHHH by JJ, and a JJaguiri gets 2. Doink fires back and hits a nice butterfly suplex. Doink powerslam. Whip, and JJ hits a midget on the apron for the best bump of the match. The midgets run around outside as Doink gets a suplex and dropkick for 2. Slam, Doink heads up top for the Whoopie Cushion, but Lawler is out to stop it and JJ gets the pin. *1/2 Lots of bullshit here, but there were a couple fun moments.
HBK/Diesel vs. Razor Ramon/1-2-3 Kid
Clique members collide!!!!! WILD brawl to start, and Razor quickly hits the Edge on Shawn, but Diesel saves. More brawling and Kid gets a rollup for 2. Crowd is superhot here. We finally settle into Kid and Shawn. Kid gets a back body drop and flying crossbody each get 2, and a victory roll for another 2. Rana attempt, but Shawn with a vicious powerbomb. Diesel in and he tosses Kid aorund like a little girl. Kid fires back and gets the tag to Razor, who comes in with rights. Spinning punch and Shawn tries to interfere, but Razor knocks him into next week. Slam for 2. Armbar but Diesel hits a short arm clothesline. Trading rights, and we get clippage. Damn it. Side slam for 2. Shawn in with a slam and big elbow, but it only gets 2. Chinlock, but Razor fights for a backslide for 2. Shawn quickly back with a dropkick for 2 and tags out. Diesel in and hits Snake Eyes and Shawn takes the opportunity to choke out Razor so Diesel can hit the RMRAS. HUGE Razor chant. Elbow drops get 2 for Diesel and he works the neck. Flying shoulderblock gets 2, and we get MORE clippage, and blatant too. We come back with Shawn and Razor both down. False tag to Kid, and Shawn accidently superkicks Diesel all the way outside. Oops. Razor gets the tag this time and Kid comes in with his usual kicking offense, which was actually exciting and cool back then. Flair Flip by Michaels and somersault plancha by Kid. Missile dropkick for 2. Razor in with the fallaway slam, then he gives the fallaway slam to the Kid onto Shawn, for 2. Cool spot there. Shawn tries something but Razor rolls through for 2, and a Rocket Launcher by the faces ALMOST gets the 3. Wow, that was damn close, and this crowd is superhot from those near falls. Clothesline gets 2, but Shawn comes back with the sleeper and Kid breaks it up. Diesel FINALLY stirs on the outside. Slingshot by Razor puts Shawn into the post and both guys are down. Tag to Kid and he hits a top rope leg drop......for 2. Holy shit was that close. Whip, but Diesel gets in the CRUSH Kid with the big boot and Shawn gets the 3. **** Great match.
Official Grade-- A. Three very good matches, two solid ones= 5 for 5 on quality wrestling. For a 1 hr. Coliseum tape, just absolutely incredible.
