New Japan Matchlists

New Japan Classics #63

Hulk Hogan/Masked Superstar  vs.  Dick Murdoch/Adrian Adonis    5/18/1984    (not hard to figure out who gets the win in this one....although he gets it with the LARIAT rather than the stupid leg drop....differences between Japan and NA there, Japanese fans would never buy a stupid leg drop as a finisher, but they love the lariat)
Andre the Giant  vs.  Tatsumi Fujinami   5/18/1984
Antonio Inoki  vs.  Riki Choshu    5/19/1984     ****   (really good match from these two that ends oddly at about 20 minutes when Inoki gets a backslide and the bell rings even though Choshu kicked out.  I think it was a draw, as the ref never raises Inoki's hand.)
Andre the Giant  vs.  Seiki Sakaguchi       5/24/1984
Adrian Adonis  vs.  Dick Murdoch         5/24/1984
Riki Choshu/Masa Saito  vs.  Antonio Inoki/Tatsumi Fujinami      5/24/1984   ***
Riki Choshu  vs.  Andre the Giant     6/1/1984    (Andre wins his 3rd match on the tape, all with the big buttdrop....all 3 were basically extended squashes, but more importantly....Choshu and the Riki Lariat JOB CLEANLY!!!)

NJPW/WWF Junior Title Tournament  2/7/1984
***note-- check out my tape review of this show here if you want to see what I thought of this show!***

Takayuki Iizuka  vs.  Osamu Matsuda
Brad Rheingans  vs. Victor Zangief
Steve Williams  vs.  Salman Hashimikov
Vader  vs.  Stan Hansen    (as noted by many others wiser than I, one of the most famous matches in puro history.  Vader's eye gets knocked out of the socket as this match is incredibly super-stiff)
Antonio Inoki/Seiji Sakaguchi  vs.  Shinya Hashimoto/Masahiro Chono

New Japan G-1 Climax 1991 (approx. 2 hrs.)

Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Shinya Hashimoto
Keiji Mutoh  vs.  Scott Norton        JIP
Riki Choshu  vs.  Masa Chono
Big Van Vader  vs.  Tatsumi Fujinami    JIP
Bam Bam Bigelow  vs.   Riki Choshu     JIP
Big Van Vader  vs.  Scott Norton
Keiji Mutoh  vs.  Tatsumi Fujinami    Semi-Final
Masa Chono  vs.  Shinya Hashimoto    JIP
Masa Chono  vs.  Shinya Hashimoto
Masa Chono  vs.  Keiji Mutoh         Tournament Final        *****   (considered by many to be the best NJ Heavyweight match of all time, and it's no wonder...if you look at DVDVR's New Japan's top matches of the 90s list, this is the top heavy match....at #9!!!  Just goes to show how awesome the Jr. division was back then)

NJPW J Crown 1996: All or Nothing
***note--For anybody not too aware of what this tournament was about, the participants all held a major Jr. Title and they put them all on the line in this single elimination tournament, so the winner ends up holding eight belts.....later in the year, Ultimo Dragon would win the WCW Cruiserweight Title to unify all 9 titles***

Great Sasuke  (IWGP Jr. Title) vs.  Masayoshi Motegi (NWA Jr. Heavyweight Title)  Quarterfinal Match
Jushin Lyger   (British Jr. Heavyweight Title)   vs.    Ultimo Dragon (WAR Jr. Int'l Heavyw eight Title)    Quarterfinal Match (This match is really short as Dragon wins with La Majistral cradle in about 4 minutes)
Shinjiro Ohtani (UWA Light Heavyweight Title) vs.   Negro Casas (NWA Welterweight Title)    Quarterfinal Match
Gran Hamada   (WWA Jr. Heavyweight Title)  vs.  El Samurai   (WWF Light Heavyweight Title)    Quarterfinal Match   (This is the part of the tournament that always gets me thinking....we all know the WWF has never given two shits about the LHW Title, but does everyone realize what happened when Dragon unified the titles?  By winning this tournament, he had eight belts, INCLUDING the WWF LHW Title, which he then went on to defend ON WCW NITRO!!!!!  IN 1996!!!!  It's obvious that NOBODY was paying attention in the WWF at that point)
Shinjiro Ohtani   vs.  Ultimo Dragon       Semi Final  Match     ****3/4   (great match, one of the best Jr. matches you'll ever find)
Great Sasuke  vs.   El Samurai    ***3/4  SemiFinal Match
Great Sasuke v Ultimo Dragon    ****1/2    (Sasuke takes a NASTY brainbuster in this match that supposedly cracked his skull....he still comes back to win the match though)

NJPW  Best of Super Juniors 1997

Jushin Lyger  vs.  Chavo Guerrero Jr.
Yoshihiro Tajiri  vs.  Shinjiro Ohtani   (Tajiri gets the MAJOR upset over The Bitchmaster, aka Lord Ohtani, here)
Koji Kanemoto  vs.  Tatsuhito Takaiwa
Jushin Lyger  vs.  Gran Naniwa   (lots of clipping here)
Jushin Lyger  vs.  Tatsuhito Takaiwa  (Takaiwa hits an amazing Super DVD in this match...wow!!!)
Koji Kanemoto  vs.  Doc Dean???  (more massive clipping here, I'm just guessing on the jobber's name, I had to really search around the net to find this guy's name)
Koji Kanemoto  vs.  Jushin Lyger  ****
Shinjiro Ohtani  vs.  El Samurai   **** (some clipping, but still worth the rating)
Koji Kanemoto vs.  El Samurai was supposed to be right here, but on version that I have, that match is not on the tape for some reason.  Damn it!!!!  It figures I'd get to miss out on a fuckin ***** classic.
