| A quick note about this CD: All guitar tracks were recorded at the same time as the drums. If Nick played bass on the song, then guitar, bass and drums were all recorded simotaniously. Almost every song on the album was done without practicing first. Also, almost every song was the first take on everything. This album was not produced, mixed, nor mastered. It was recorded at the Boiler Room unless stated otherwise. Ever think "How do they come up with such shit?" Here's How Special Edition Track List Is: 1. What She's Done To Me This is the first Kickstand song. Mike wrote this song exactly as it ended up in a jam with Nick back in August 2003. They jammed the song twice, the lyrics are the first thing out of Mike's head and it stuck. Who really knows what this song is about? Something about running and fucking. Mike sang lead and played both guitar and bass. Nick played drums. Originally part of the first Kickstand release, the EP Junior. The first time this song was played live was actually in Verdant Sky, Nick and Mike's prior band. 2. Three Quarters Love The guitar parts to the song were written back in November 2003. The chorus vox were written one day while Nick and Mike were hanging out. The lyrics were written on the car ride over to the studio. Nick sang lead, Mike sang backup. Mike played bass and guitar. Gill drummed. 3. Big Hungry This song took literally fourty-five seconds to write. Mike wrote the song while waiting for Gill to show up to head down to the studio. The lyrics are inspired by a phone message Mike's little brother left for Mike's ex-girlfriend (to whom his friends would call big hungry, she wasnt that big, she just used to be a twig). Mike sang the verses, played guitar and bass. Gill drummed and sang the chorus. Nick watched. 4. Can't Get You Outta My Head This is our Kylie Minogue cover. It sounds evil and sucks ass, sorry. Nick sang lead, Mike and Gill supplied backing vox. Mike played guitar, Nick played bass and Gill drummed. 5. Circle R This song originally "Just Accept It," but Shawn got mad that Mike was singing a song about his balding so Gill stepped up and made all the lyrics up about Radio Shack as he recorded them. Sometimes we play this song as "Just Accept It" live. The main guitar riff isn't actually that bad. Mike played guitar and bass, Gill played drums and sang. Nick watched. 6. Oz (For the Ladies) The original live Kickstand line-up was supposed to be Mike (vox/guitar) Steve Ozborne (bass) Nick (drums). We had a show scheduled at The Cage that was later cancelled. This song was written by Mike and Oz during their only practice in that line-up) It literally took two minutes to write and five minutes of joking around to come up with the lyrics. Mike played bass, guitar and sang. Gill drummed. Nick watched. 7. Don't Answer The Phone This is a joke song recorded about a friend, out of respect to the friend, I won't state his name, if he could take a joke, then I would state his name. This is our attempt at emo. Mike wrote the vocal melodies and Nick made up the (most) lyrics to the verses as he recorded them. I think we could be an good emo band if wanted to, but we would probably annoy ourselves more than we would annoy the audience. The vox were recorded on Mike's computer. Nick sang lead and Mike supplied backing vox. Mike played guitar, Nick played bass and Gill drummed. 8. Premature Promise (Acoustic) This song was written on the spot in Mike's room, lyrics and all, while playing the acoustic guitar. Mike started playing and singing it and his little brother told him it pretty damn good. So Mike wrote down the lyrics. Another song literally written in less than two minutes. Mike sang and played guitar. 9. Purple Rain Our cover of the classic Prince song. We sound somewhat decent on this song. We didn't want to fuck up (that much) on such a great song (honestly, we love this song). We had to punk it up at the end, we HAD to damnit! Mike sang lead while Nck and Gill supplied backing vox. Mike played guitar, Nick played bass, and Gill drummed. 10. Scuba Dive The riff for Scuba Dive has been kicking around for a while. It was originally a 'vinyl swen opener' song that had no vox. Recorded during the Junior session, Nick made up all lyrics as he recorded them. Mike played bass and guitar. Nick sang and played drums. This was one of four tracks recorded for the original (meaning just mike and nick) 'Junior' EP. 11. Don't Tell Me Our cover of Avril Lavigne. We rock the shit out of it. Mike sings lead, plays bass and guitar. Gill sings backup and plays drums. 12. B-Cups Over Easy Another song originally written for 'vinyl swen opener' that was recorded during the Junior session. It was originally refered to as the "happy song" because of the chorus riff sounds happy (not to me but to some friends). Don't ask me what the lyrics are about, its something about eggs and breasts, but that is all I really know. Mike sang, played bass and guitar. Nick drummed. 13. You Are Only as Cool as Your Band Is This song is actually a stab at local band (don't worry, if you are reading this, then it is probably not your band). It was recorded during the Junior session in October 2003. Mike sang, played guitar and bass. Nick drummed. 14. Premature Promise This is just the rock version of the song. It kinda sucks ass, thats why Mike recorded the acoustic version, which sounds more sincere. Mike sang, played bass and guitar. Gill drummed. Nick watched. 15. Flesh and Horses Was written on the spot in the studio when we came back to record the tracks for the Special Edition. Lyrics were inspired by a verbal fight Nick and his sister had. The song title is inspired by Melissa Auf De Maur from 'Auf De Maur' and formerly of the Smashing Pumpkins and Hole. Gill drummed and sang lead, Nick played bass, Mike played guitar. Surpisingly, this is the only Kickstand song in 6/8. 16. Yeah Our cover of the Usher/Lil John/Ludacris song. We rock the shit out of it. Mike sang lead and played guitar, Nick played bass, Gill drummed and sang back-up vox. 17. What She's Done To Me (Alternate) This is the recent version of the song, we rerecorded it with Gill on drums when we added him into the Kickstand line-up. Mike sang, played bass and guitar. Gill drummed. 18. Scuba Dive (Alternate) Pretty much the same story as WSDTM except Nick made up some new words. This version is almost as good as the original. Nick sang, Gill drummed and Mike played guitar and bass. 19. Hey Ya Our studio cover of the OutKast song. We had to rock it out, too bad the studio version of the song kinda sucks. Mike sings lead and plays guitar, Nick plays bass and sings backup and Gill drums and sings backup. 20. You Are Only as Cool as Your Band Is (Alternate) Pretty much the same story as the other two remakes. This version is much worse. Gill drummed, Mike sang, played guitar and bass. Nick watched. 21. Celebrate Christmas Nick wrote the guitar parts for for the first two parts. Mike wrote the other part. This and WAW are the only Kickstand originals where Mike didnt write all the guitar parts. The vox were recorded at Mike's parents house and on Mike's computer using the crappy mic that came with the comp. The first part of the lyrics are actually read from Chicken Soup For The Christian Soul, the rest Gill made up on the spot. This song sucks hardcore. Nick played bass and drummed, Gill sang, and Mike played guitar. 22. Instand Axis/Witches and Warlocks The music for Instant Axis is actually a really crappy song Mike made on Fruity Loops. The song is shameless seft promotion, which is awesome. The vox were recorded on a crappy mic on Mike's computer. Overall the song was done using Acid Pro. Witches and Warlocks is actually Kickstands "fee" for recording at the Boiler Room. Shawn wanted to play guitar on a song so Mike hopped on the drums and played as crappy as he possibly could(on purpose). The song was made up on the spot, it was a crappy spontanious jamming. All vox were made up as they were recorded. Nick sang lead, Shawn sang back-up, played guitar and bass, Mike drummed and screamed like a girl sometime during the song. Gill watched. Unrecorded Kickstand Songs: Bitch Tits: A song about "a man's pair that higher." We got kicked off the stage while playing this song. Eleventh Century Blues: This is a secret. Only clues to hold those over is "God I Love You!" Just Accept It: Song about Shawn's balding. F in C#: This isn't really a song. Its just one note while yelling "fuck you" at the crowd. Kickstand Covers Not Recoreded: Everybody Hurts by REM: Mike sings lead. Its our best cover, but its never seen the stage Halie Sallasse Up Your Ass by Propagandhi: Mike sings lead. A great song, also never played live. Ain't Too Proud Too Beg by the Temptations: Ben Gunter on guest lead vox. Also, never seen the stage. |
