Major points to consider when preparing your comments

• The economic and social costs of this proposed highway are obscene.

• With a nation at war and a civilization running out of oil, our

limited money and resources need to be focused on fewer roads and

better transportation alternatives.

• The fabric of this rural area would be torn apart – the lives of

rural human and natural communities would be devastated.

• The integrity of the Daniel Boone National Forest would be further

chopped up and devalued.

• The Rockcastle River’s state-level Wild and Scenic designation is

threatened by where they plan to put this road, along with entrance and

exit ramps. This superb river’s health is in trouble no matter where

they cross it!

• Caves and karst – the limestone landscapes above and below ground –

would be shattered, their lifeforms destroyed, the subterranean

plumbing of the region laid waste.

• Surface and karst waters – the area between London and Somerset

contains several Special Use waterways, of high quality and protected

by state government, that would be degraded by construction of a new

interstate, with associated exit and entrance ramps and fast-food and

gas station development.

Check with the KICK 66 Web site, www.kick66.org for information about

formatting and inclusion of the correct project title and number on

your comments. Send a copy of your comments to Sue Koplowitz at

[email protected] if you can!
