SUMMARY:
Goten meets Plue and wants to keep him.
The sun was bright and the wind was sweet outside Goten's
window. He sat up in
his bed
stretching with a huge yawn. His stomach roared impatiently and
he leapt out of bed.
ChiChi smiled warmly as the boy descended the staircase and sat
at the kitchen table with
Gohan.
He was the spitting image of Goku at that age, so much that it made her
heart ache.
She missed
Goku so damn much! Why did he have to stay in the other world? It
wasn't fair!
She needed
him. The boys needed him. She sighed as she began to serve
pancakes to her
sons.
"Goten I got a joke for you." Gohan said with a grin.
ChiChi smiled. Gohan was so
handsome.
He was growing up to be a fine young man, and quite the scholar as
she'd always
hoped.
He had only a few weeks before he began to attend Orange Star
High. It was a very
good public
school. She had always hoped to send Gohan to the best private
school she
could
afford, but money was too tight for that now.
"What?" Goten piped. The little boy had just turned seven
and was a bundle of
energy.
She didn't know how she kept up with him some days.
"What do you call a fish with no eyes?" Goten shrugged as he
sipped his milk.
"A Fsh!" he
said. Goten's eyes bulged and milk squirted out his nose.
Gohan burst out
laughing,
pounding the table with his fist as tears began to stream from his
eyes. Goten
glared at
him with watering eyes as he cupped his nose.
"Gohan!" ChiChi scolded. But in truth she was trying not to
laugh as well. She ran
and grabbed
some paper towels and mopped up the mess and dabbed at Goten's nose
while he
tried to squirm away. The rest of the meal was silent as the boys
shoveled food into
their mouth
with only slightly better manners than their father. ChiChi was
about to admonish
them for
their rudeness, but realized that it would fall on deaf ears.
After all, there still weren't
half as bad
as their father. She grinned as they cleared the table and handed
her the dishes.
"What should we do today?' Goten cried as he bounded out the
door. "Can we go to the big
forest and
fight dinosaurs?"
"We could." Gohan said. "But remember what Okassan told
us?" Goten's head
hung for a
moment. He heaved a deep sigh and began to recite:
"No bringing dinosaurs home and no hurting them either."
"That's right." Gohan said with a barely contained smile.
"But we can still go to the big forest and maybe catch some
fish." Goten's nose wrinkled.
"I'm sick of fish."
"We don't have to eat them. We can just catch them for fun."
"I know!" Goten said, ignoring him. "Let's play hide and
seek!" Goten cried and
began to
run. "Your it!" Gohan smiled and turned away closing
his eyes. He could easily
sense
Goten's ki, but he tried to ignore it. He waited a few minutes
and then began to walk
into the
forest.
Goten was running like a demon was on his tail. He stopped
briefly to consider
several
hiding spots and dismissed them all with a wave of his hand. He
needed to find a
really good
hiding spot. One that Gohan would never find! He giggled in
sheer delight as he
ran through
the cool, deep green forest. The river was coming up, and once he
passed it there
would
be several caves that he could hide in. Some of them led to vast
underground caverns
full
of beautiful, glimmering stalactites and stalagmites and deep hidden
pools. If he could
find
one of those before Gohan caught him, his brother would be
stumped! Goten giggled
again
and hopped onto a large boulder in the middle of the bubbling
river. He jumped again
and landed
on the opposite bank.
"Puun!" he heard a little voice suddenly squeak. He froze
in his tracks and looked around.
"Puun!" He
gasped and spun around, the noise right behind him that time.
A small, pale blue creature gazed up at him. It had tiny
black eyes and what looked
like a
carrot for a nose.
"Wow!" Goten cried, forgetting his game with his older
brother. "Hey little guy." He
said and
patted it on the head.
"Puuuunn." It said with a tiny smile.
"Aww!" Goten cried. The little thing stood on two legs and
had two little hands and
it grasped
Goten's pant leg and tugged.
"Found you!" Gohan cried behind him. Goten jumped with a
startled cry. He felt the
little
creature cling to his leg suddenly, shivering.
"Gohan! You scared him!" Goten chided, waving a finger at his
older brother.
"Scared what?" Gohan said, hiding his smile at his brother's
comment.
"It's ok little guy, come on out. It's just Gohan, he won't
hurt you." The little creature
peeped out
behind Goten's leg. Gohan blinked in astonishment.
"What is it?" he said softly.
"He's my new friend and I'm taking him home." Goten said, his
lower lips stuck out in
defiance.
"Oh no! You remember what kassan told us! No pets! She
won't let you keep him,
just
let him go."
"But can I at least show him to Trunks?" Goten pleaded.
"I don't think so."
"But why? It's not fair!"
"Because we don't know what it is but I think it belongs
here. We should leave him here."
"I wanna take him home!" Goten cried. Gohan grit his
teeth. The boy was more
stubborn
that their mother.
"She won't let you keep him!"
"You don't know for sure."
"Yes I do."
"Do not!"
"Yes I do!" Gohan snapped and then sighed rubbing his
temples. Fine then. Let
him be
pissed off at Mom when she says no. Gohan thought with a frown.
"Fine, but she will
say no."
"Get that nasty thing away from me!" ChiChi shrieked. "Get
it out of this house right
now!"
Goten looked as though he were about the cry, Gohan cringed
guiltily. He should have
been
sterner with the boy. The little creature was helping himself to
the entire contents of the
candy dish.
"But mom!"
"No way! Absolutely not! That thing is weird and it's probably
some alien! It may be
cute now,
but it'll probably turn into some nasty monster! I want it out of
here now!"
"Mom, it has less chi than you. He can't be dangerous-"
Gohan began.
"Oh no! It's just another mouth to feed! Look, he's eating
candy! Get it out of here!"
ChiChi
yelled. Gohan stared at his little brother's bowed head. He
had always wanted a pet
too,
namely his dragon Icarus. He still saw the dragon every so often
and had wanted to take
Goten to
see him today. He remembered how he felt when he had to tell
Icarus good bye each
night.
"Mom, come on!" Gohan said, his voice rising. "He's so
tiny, he won't be hard to
take
care of." She shot him a glare and was dismayed when he glared
right back.
"Puun, puun." She heard right beneath her and looked down to see
the little creature
rubbing
his head affectionately against her leg like a little cat. She
tried to glower at it and
failed
miserably, her heart warming to the creature in spite of her
reservations. It would be
nice
to have someone, even a little pet around to keep her company when the
boys were at
school.
"I don't know." She sighed. Gohan and Goten heard the
indecision in her voice and
looked
up hopefully.
"Puun." They turned and saw the little thing pushing a chair up
toward the sink. He
climbed up
and took the drying towel in his little hands and began to rub the
drying dishes with
it.
"Oh!" ChiChi gasped. Not only was he a weird little alien
but he cleaned?! She
blinked in
astonishment wondering what else it could do.
"Look ma! He can help you around the house too! We'll take
good care of him I
promise!"
Goten pleaded, his eyes shining. ChiChi shook her head in
amazement as the
little
thing held up a dry dish to her.
"Puun.." it said, bright eyes trained on her, almost expectantly.
"...Alright." She sighed after several moments.
"Yeah!" Gohan and Goten cried.
"Let's show him to Trunks!" Goten cried, taking the plate from
the little animal-? and
setting him
on the floor.
"Alright! Let's go!" Gohan said with a grin. Goten dashed
out the door carrying the
little
creature in his arms. "Thank you,
Okassan."
He said, kissing her on the cheek. ChiChi smiled.
"Your welcome, honey."
