He tried to calm
his racing breath, to slow his ragged gasps. If they found him it
was all over.
But his harsh pants were echoing in
his ears, and his heart beat was like a fist pounding on his
door. They
would find him easily, it was only a
matter of time before his involuntary functions betrayed him with their
volume.
He held his breath
for as long as possible, his teeth clenched to keep from chattering,
but
inevitably the need for air forced
him to suck in air through his clogged nostrils.
The sound was like
the blast of a fog horn. He bit his lip, fear turning to
fury. How dare they do
this to him?
The fist hitting
his door was like a ki-blast in his ear. He bit his lip so hard
he drew blood and
tried to make himself smaller as he
pushed his back against the bathroom wall.
His door flew open
and smacked the opposite wall with a bang.
They found him.
