The story behind the character of Mystic Angelwings
The last of seven children to be born to Dylan and Shana, Shanen Madeleine Pia came into the world. It was a world that was peaceful, filled with laughter and joy. Her elder siblings, Aaron, Shawn, Matthew, Sheila, Helen and Amanda kept watch on her very closely. She was a bright lass, cheeks a rosy red, eyes filled with joy and sunshine to all who met her... till one tragic incident...
There was a scent of evil in the air that day. No one noticed it as it was a day of celebration. A new child was born to a newlywed couple and they were glowing with happiness. Suddenly, a blast rocketed the village as a nearby hut caught on fire. Terrified, the town people scattered in different directions, scrambling for shelter. Blast after blast followed, till there was silence.
Dylan, the town chief, stepped out of his hut, with his family next to him. One by one, the people came out, clearly shaken, inspecting the damage. Amazingly, there wasn't as much as they expected. It seemed as though the attack was planned long before it happened as it had managed to miss most of the rest of the huts around. The cloud of smoke cleared and standing behind it were a whole band of barbarians, known only as 'Geldenhuis'. They were after only one thing... "The Rainbow diamond".  Known for its astounding healing powers and the ability to alter the past and future, it would be disastrous if it fell into the wrong hands. And 'Geldenhuis' would be --- the wrong hands.
Being the owner of this diamond, Dylan quickly glanced over to his wife, giving her a signal to hide it safely, somewhere no one would ever suspect. Taking it out from her pocket, she gave it to Shannen, sending her off into the woods. As she was only 5 years old, she was able to slip away undetected, unsure of what was going on around her. Only with the knowledge that something bad was about to happen. She hugged the bag close to her body as she hid a few feet away, her blue eyes watching the scene. She saw the leader strike her father down and him rising back up, ignoring the warning given by the leader. It took almost all her willpower not to drop the bag and stand by her father's side to fight.
Minutes later, the whole town was in chaos. She ran away in fright to a little shack deep into the woods. Her instincts told her that it had something to do with the bag her mother had given her. She hid it in a corner, with a silent prayer tbat no one would find it, and ran back to the town. While running to her parents, a man grabbed her by her waist from behind. She screamed and the leader turned in that direction. She was placed in front of him and asked where the diamond was. She told him she didn't know a thing, vowing to keep it a secret. Her father grasped her hand in his own, squeezing it softly. This act, however, did not go un-noticed by the leader. Immediately, he asked her father again and he denied knowing where it was.
"Very well, so it shall be." He raised his hand and 'Geldenhuis' proceeded to kill the whole town, not caring if it were man, woman or child. No living thing was spared. Her mother picked her up, running and throwing her into the woods once again, barely getting there in time before she was killed. Shannen ran for her life. Nimble on her feet, she dashed through the forest back to her shack. Hiding in a corner sobbing, she vowed that she would avenge all their deaths someday. Too exhausted, she sleeps after a while.
Night passed, and the sunlight flowed in through the window. She opened her eyes, not sure where she was. The memories came back to her in a rush and she bolted upright. Her hand moved to the corner where she hid the bag. She let out a sigh of relief as she found it and hugged it close to her. She placed it back and stepped out of the shack. She gritted her teeth and somehow found her way back to the town. She smelled death in the air.. a smell which scared her. Upon reaching it, she gasped,  grabbed her stomach and turned and retched. Tears welled up in her eyes as she looked at what was once her home, her play-yard, her world.
Dead bodies were everywhere, some with their eyes wide open in fear, women naked with their legs spread, babies - small little things lying as though tossed aside. She searched frantically for her family, running in and out of huts, till she finally saw them. Lying side by side, they seemed to be the only people who stayed together throughout the whole ordeal. Her mother's blood trailed from where she had thrown Shannen to where she lay as though she crawled back to be with her husband. Her siblings too, were dead. She sank to her knees slowly, as grief overwhelmed her, sobbing and groaning. She felt like she was to blame .. that she had killed her entire town just to keep a secret. That she was selfish and only thought of her family and not the others who shared this town with her. (Little did she know just how important that secret was. It would alter her life, putting her and the people around her at great risk.) The people who had cared for her, the people who had their own families, and most of all, the people who had loved her. Now, the once jovial and happy town had turned into nothing but a pile of rubble and death. She closed her eyes, saying a silent prayer for all the souls and lives that had been taken that night. She stood up and gathered herself together.
After burying her family, she bid farewell to the town and she walked back, deep in thoughts and sorrow, to the shack, a place she would call home for a long time to come..........
