| **FLASH* Kyler finishes two titles in two days at the BSCA National!!!! April 28: Q's in both HT runs to earn his AKC Herding Tested Title! April 29: Third Q* in Rally Novice to finish his AKC RN Title! *Legs #1 & #2 were earned in early March. Kyler finishes his RN with 3 Q's in 3 trials with scores of 97, 92 & 94 (with very minimal training)!! Congratulations to Kate Kinnane and Heike Wehrle on their "sweep" of Puppy Sweeps at the 2009 BSCA National! Xita de Beauvoir (owned by Heike) took Best in Sweeps, and her litterbrother Xann de Beauvoir (owned by Kate) took Best of Opposite! Xita and Xann are younger full siblings to Kyler |
| Kyler was the dainty little bundle of joy who came to me at just the right time. In May 2006 I�d lost my 10 year-old Walker to a tumor, and although I hadn�t necessarily planned on getting a puppy right away, by early summer I found myself perusing the websites of Belgian Sheepdog friends and acquaintances. I noticed that Kate Kinnane had a litter on the ground that was a repeat of Uri (BIS Ch. Uri de Beauvoir), who I�d really liked at the 2006 National in Tulsa that April. A few phone calls and several weeks later, Kyler flew out to Minnesota and gingerly stepped out of the crate and into our lives.
Gracie � for all of her 5 � years the baby of the family - wasn�t quite sure what to think of this little tyke. After a few hours of sneaking sniffs and glances at him, she decided he was ok and could stay. Cassie on the other hand, was NOT happy. She had just turned 14, and was the �Grand Dame� of the family. She�d never had any problem with younger members of the family joining us. She was fine when Walker came, then Grace. All became friends quickly. But now she stood downstairs, as far away from the puppy as she could get, and loudly and forcefully expressed her displeasure. Over the next few days, she would get only slightly closer to Kyler, but it was clear she didn�t want this change in her life, and she never warmed up to Kyler. This made me sad, because I�d expected them to enjoy each other�s company and in her younger days, I knew the two of them would have been fast friends. The reason behind her non-acceptance of Kyler became clear about a month later, when I came home from work to find Cassie on the floor, gone to the Rainbow Bridge while I�d been at work. I'd noticed her slowing down some, and it appeared that recently she hadn�t been feeling well, and in fact I�d made a vet appointment for later that day. But she didn�t make it. In hindsight, I know now that whatever was sapping the last few days of life out of her was behind her refusal to welcome Kyler to the family. Since Cassie was my first Belgian Sheepdog, first breed champion, and very special to me in many ways, I�d always thought her death would devastate me. It was hard to say goodbye to her, but having puppy Kyler around made her loss much more bearable. He was SO darn cute! He made me laugh and smile constantly. And it�s hard to cry when you�re laughing! Not long after Cassie left us, a friend said something that still makes me smile. She said that Cassie, in her infinite wisdom, stuck around just long enough to make sure I was in good hands with Grace and young Mister Kyler. When she saw that Kyler was the perfect fit for me and she knew l�d be okay, her job was done and she went to join Kia, Mandy & Walker at the Rainbow Bridge. I look forward to being reunited with all of them someday. |

| Those familiar with horse racing will probably recognize Kyler's registered name. His breeder is a horse racing fan, and since this litter was her "W" litter, and was born around the time of the Triple Crown, all the puppies in the litter have names associated with horse racing (War Chant, Whirlaway, With Flair, etc....) |
