What is KIAM?
The KIAM Egyptian Rabbit Breeders Association started in the late 1940's as a group of individuals interested in raising and promoting domestic rabbits. The term KIAM is from the initials of the states in which the early membership came, Kentucky (K), Illinois (I), Arkansas (A), and Missouri (M)-KIAM.

The term "Egyptian" in fact has nothing to do with the national orgin of either the early or present members or for that matter the orgin of the rabbits that they did or do raise today. The atrea where the OhioRiver Empties into the Mississippi River is characterized by a large complex of deltas (low lying islands of river deposited soil). This delta complex seemed to early settlers much like the deltas Where the Nile River empties into the Mediterranean Sea. Thus the regions of "Little Egypt". Egyptian therefore refers to the Ohio and Mississippi River delta region located at the heart of the 4 state area from which the club tazkes its name.

Today the KIAM Egyptian Rabbit Breeders Association remains a club of interested domestic rabbit enthusiasts affilitated with the American Rabbit Breeders Association (a national organization) and the Illinois Rabbit Breeders Association (a state Organization chartered under the American Rabbit Breeders Association). Membership need not, and does not always come from the 4 state area. Individuals from many states often maintain memberships with KIAM to compete as members of the I,llinois Rabbit Breeders Association.
