CIVIL AIR PATROL

Hello, and welcome to our home page. Ryan and I live in Knoxville TN, and have been involved in Amateur radio for over a year now and we are having a great time. So far we have been to two Knoxville RACK Hamfests, and the Ten-Tec Hamfest. We currently have three Yaesu 2500s (2 meter Rigs) an Icom IC-V8 (2 meter HT) and an Icom IC-T90-A Tribander HT (2 meter/70cm/6 meter) Were both only Techs at the moment but we're studying the code and the theory to get our General Class license. One of our favorite activities is to take the 2500 we have configured for battery operation and go "mountain topping". Come spring we plan to take the rig up into the mountains and do some overnight stuff. We already have many simplex contacts that we have made while mountain topping. It's exciting because we never know who we'll meet on the airwaves...

As you can see we belong to both the Middle-East TN Emergency Radio Service (METERS) and the Radio Amateur Club of Knoxville. (RACK) I am also the Emergency Services Director for TN Wing Civil Air Patrol. My primary responsibility in CAP  is to coordinate Missing Aircraft/Missing Person Searches and Disaster Relief Operations in the state. I also recruit new talent for TN Wing CAP emergency services and help to create working relationships between TN Wing CAP and the other emergency service response agencies in TN.

On to the SKYWARN side of the house. I've been involved in the program for over three years and enjoy the contributions Ryan and I are making to the safety of the East TN Area. The SKYWARN program is the eyes of the National Weather service. After completion of the training session offered free of charge by NWS staff, we are released to the field for duty. Our activations are primarily during the Spring months but have happened during the other seasons as well. Ryan acts as my logger and spotter since he has also taken the SKYWARN Spotter Training. Ryan understands the terminology spoken over the radio and understands what he is looking at with respect to cloud formations. He does a fine job of keeping up with things while I concentrate on driving and taking atmospheric measurments.

MORE TO COME!
