highway one.

your hands strum along
to the base line of an ani song
as we drive on highway one
the black ocean rushes by
reflecting its waves up to the sky
and drown out the moment till its gone

later we get a way for a walk
a much better excuse to talk
the night was warmer than she meant to be
so we stepped outside and headed for the beach

the light house beam takes a dive
and follows us along west cliff drive
the time of night remains ignored and unknown
we lean against the safety rail
the waves fight with the rocks they hail
and we see our shadows in the water's foam

the fog's moisture dances in the beams of a car
and does pirouettes where the street lights are
spinning around till landing in your hair
and the silhouettes of trees
make up the beaches boundaries
and we often forget that they're always on guard, always aware
back to music...
