About me:
Professional

I have been working as a freelance writer since 2004.  I specialize in science, nature and health writing; religious or spiritual issues; feature writing; profiles; essays and in-depth research and am experienced in third-person and first-person narrative writing as well as succinct coverage of hard-hitting news

I also have experience as an editor. I served on the editorial board and as the chief copy editor for my college newspaper for a year and a half, and edit copy on a freelance and professional basis. Additionally, I have experience working with individuals, newspaper staff, webmasters and magazine editors in the planning, researching, reporting, writing and presentation of stories. I have a bachelor's degree in journalism and mass communication from Arizona State University's Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, where I focused on in-depth reporting and science writing. I am currently studying for my master's degree in creative nonfiction from Goucher College.

Personal

I'm a native of New York state, but I've spent most of my life tolerating -- and coming to love -- the temperate Arizona desert. I originally studied bioengineering at Arizona State University and later  worked in a production plant as a process trainer and supervisor for three years. March 11, 2002, I had David, my beautiful, intelligent and precocious son. I soon revisited my first professional passion, writing, to obtain my journalism degree. I enjoy working at
Arizona Highways Magazine, where I was lucky enough to secure an internship, as well
as writing for area newspapers The Arizona Republic and the East Valley Tribune. I'm currently attending Goucher College, based in Maryland, to obtain my master's degree in creative nonfiction writing.  Ultimately, I plan to continue writing daily-reporting stories, as well as more in-depth projects, and I plan to write book-length illustrative nonfiction volumes as well.

I love writing, time with my son, photography, reading (nonfiction as well as fiction -- thinking-heavy but well-written books are the best no matter what the genre), getting out in nature, a steady supply of Diet Coke and the occasional heated political debate. I intend to write until my lifeless form is pried from my computer chair.
