I have the honour to refer to my letter of 14 April 1997 to the President of the Security Council (S/1997/307), informing members of the Council of the extension for six months of the mandate of my Representative in Cambodia, Mr. Lakhan L. Mehrotra, in keeping with the spirit and principles of the Paris Agreements.

I wish to inform you in this regard that, following the appropriate consultations, I have decided on a further six months' extension of the Office of my Representative in Phnom Penh. My Representative will continue to be assisted by one military adviser.

I should be grateful if you would bring this information to the attention of the members of the Security Council.
