LETTER DATED 30 MAY 1997 FROM THE SECRETARY-GENERAL ADDRESSED

TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE SECURITY COUNCIL

I have the honour to refer to my letter dated 7 April 1997 to the President of the Security Council (S/1997/307) by which I informed the members of the Council of the extension by a further six months of the Office of my Representative in Phnom Penh in keeping with the spirit and principles of the Paris Agreements.

I wish to inform you in this regard that, following consultations with the Government of Cambodia, I have decided to appoint Mr. Lakhan L. Mehrotra (India) as my Representative in Cambodia, succeeding Mr. Benny Widyono. He will continue to be assisted by one military adviser.
