The Parthenon

on Halsted in Greek Town

It's a Family Affair

If you only have time in your life to go to just one of the many great restaurants lining Halsted between the expressway and Washington, I have to insist that you make it the Parthenon. As ageless as the monument/temple its named for, they specialize in making a family occasion one for the whole room.

Somehow, everyone around you becomes part of the experience. It might be the rowdy excitment of "OooPah" and flames reaching the ceiling as waiters ignite the Saganaki (flaming cheese doused with booze, can it get any better?).

It might also be the free-flowing Ouzo, do not drink and drive on this, it might be better filling the tank of your car! It might be that you can still order a family-style sampler meal that gives you a true greek smorgasbord of cuisine, coffee and baklava included for a darn reasonable rate.

Ok, the fact that I've been going there since before I was a pre-schooler, that might be my reason for going there, but I keep going back. Why don't you start your own tradition? You won't be sorry, although you might be just a little better acquainted with the other diners around you. Reason enough!
