This is a poem that Ruth Helmick had written and Bertha Helmick
gave a copy to me. So we will put it in the book at this point.
"MOTHER"
Mother is the best friend of them all,
She is a friend through the winter,
summer, spring and fall,
If anything you wish to know,
To your mother you can go.
She will tell you in a short while,
And always greet you with a smile.
A mother tries to teach her child,

BERTHA ALICE HELMICK, born January 12, 1920 at Pleasant Ridge,
Upshur County, West Virginia. Bertha attended Public Schools in
Upshur County. She worked several years in Quincy, Pennsylvania for
an Orphanage which kept children and Old Folks. She was great in helping
me get the information started for doing this book. She had taken the time to
write down or keep names and dates of her Aunts and Uncles. Which if she
had not it would have been impossible for me to start. She also helped me
from time to time in making corrections on dates and names.
Bertha started the Family Reunion that we now have. She started
the first one at the French Creek Game Farm at French Creek, West Virginia.
It since has been held at the City Park, Buckhannon, West Virginia.
At the Upshur County Recreational Park, Tennerton, West Virginia,
at the Stone Coal Camp Ground, next to the Stone Coal Lake,
Buckhannon, West Virginia.
Bertha was engaged to Airman Private First Class Daris Paul
Bean who drowned while in the service May 1, 1943 in California.
CHARLES VERGIL HELMICK, born May 22, 1927 at Pleasant Ridge,
Upshur County, West Virginia. Owns and operates Buckhannon Stockyards
[Livestock Market]. Buckhannon, West Virginia. He married October
14, 1947 to DORIS HAMNER HELMICK at Buckhannon, West Virginia
by the Reverend Forrest Snyder. Doris was born January 16, 1928 at Sago,
West Virginia. The daughter of Floyd and Mary Elizabeth [Ours] Hamner.
Floyd was born July 4, 1907 and Mary was born September 25, 1906.
Vergil andDoris's children are:

JANE MARSHA McHUGH at Friendsville, Maryland. Jane was born
November 2, 1948. The daughter of James Farrell and Doris Ella [Guyer]
McHugh. James was born November 28, 1910 and Doris April 22, 1911.
