FREE THE GODS!

It is barely a century after the Second Divine Struggle, where the gods girded themselves for war and led their followers into bloody conflict.  Rumours have abounded since the Struggle that the gods would tire with the world, and move on.  These rumours have been growing louder in the past year or so, until the whispers have becoming deafening shouts.

One by one, the churches began to fall silent.  The priests stopped healing the sick and needy, explaining that the gods were unhappy with the people and thus were not as free with their benedictions as they had been.  This was the public face of events.  In private, the priests wrung their hands and pleaded with their deities to relent and give back what they had previously blessed the mortal realms with.   Many of the most powerful priests found their powers weakened to that of a mere acolyte, resulting in several deaths by those too slow to take up adequate precautions.

Many of the common folk turned to the Church of the One, the religious order that had been only mocked before.  The priests from the main churches saw this trend, and sent members of their own orders to investigate whether this church still retained what power it had had.  None returned.  They were bereft for answers, and even a General Assembly, where the High Priests of all the gods were present, failed to provide answers.  Many believed that others were lying, and thus the meeting failed spectacularly, and the leaders of the world's religions dispersed.

One old man had a vision which he swore was the truth, though none believed him.  He claimed the gods had been caged, but did not know by whom.  When all laughed at his theory, he stormed off and began to look for those who would believe in and follow what he alone swore was the true reason for the uproar.  He began to look for those who would Free the Gods.

Archives will eventually be posted, but that depends on how much free time I get to collate them over the summer - unfortunately, I lost the original archives (from August 2001 - March 2002) due to computer problems, but hope to restore them and then place them online eventually.
