Rules of Engagement
The laws of the Land are designed to make playing as enjoyable as possible, and to protect the game.

TO JOIN THE GAME
You must be a mature player - age does not matter anywhere near as much as maturity.
You must be able to write with an appropriately high level of accuracy in spelling and grammar.
You must have sufficient ability to pass a writing test, set by the GM, whose decision is final.
You must complete the player profile provided.
You must be completely honest, as lies will be discovered eventually, and action may be taken.
You must be willing to participate - I don't agree with the policy of lurking.
You must be willing to abide by the rules of the game, as laid out below.

INTER-PLAYER RULES
You must not kill another player's character, or inflict serious harm, without prior consent.
You must not spam mail the list - that is my job! :)
Treat another player's character as a personal belonging of theirs, and do not play it, unless authorised by that player. This also applies to important NPCs that appear in the storyline - do not assume that you know how to play them, as they are not always as they appear.
Do not attack another player over the list - email the GM if a problem arises, and he will mediate.
Even more importantly, do not attack the GM. Ever.
Do not treat the list as a recruitment drive. If you want players for a game of your own, advertise at www.pbem.com or a similar website.
Lurkers are not permitted within the game.

CHARACTER RULES
No gods, immortals, or mages of extreme powers. I have an intense dislike of power-playing in general, and will not tolerate it.
I would like original and believable characters - not old favourites dug out for the umpteenth time, but a new character specifically for the game.
In general, I prefer characters of a single class, e.g. Warrior, Mage, rather than multi-class characters. Multi-class characters will never be as strong in their individual disciplines as single class characters of the same experience, and hence a straight fighter will usually defeat a fighter/mage in a sword fight, and a straight mage will overpower the same fighter/mage in a magical duel.
If you wish to submit a character of an uncommon race, please ask before going to the trouble of writing out a character background, because then it makes me feel less guilty about saying no if I am unwilling to take a character of that race.

POSTING REQUIREMENTS
You must post at least once a week - repeated failures of this simple rule may result in your removal from the game.
If you know that you will be away for an extended period of time, kindly let me know, as I can then cover for you and am therefore not left wondering where you are.
Before posting, always check the post with a spell checker, as this can only improve your writing.

POSTING RULES
You must put your character's name, or a suitable title, in squiggly brackets at the start of each post, e.g. {Anderlane}.
Keep only a small part of the previous post in your reply. As good as the previous post may be, it becomes tiring to reread it several times while waiting to get to the new additions.
Please do not post anything that is only a sentence or two long.
There is no tag rule in Erythia.
If you are writing a joint post with another player, please let the list know as then the rest of the players are not waiting for you to post.
Use suitable warnings in the subject line if necessary - e.g. {violence}, {gore}, {warn}, {sex}
Always write in the third person, and in the past tense - e.g. Bob agreed to write as required.
Please do not split posts up - post your contribution in one single section. Not only do split posts mean that the action gets broken up, but it looks a mess and plays havoc with those that read mail from the archives. Don't do it! Please!

SEXUAL SITUATIONS
In Erythia, most situations of a sexual nature may be solved with a simple fade-to-black - if you want to write it, check with me first as we are likely to have younger players present, and if so are not going to act as an educational resource for reproductive purposes.

The GM reserves the right to remove players from the game, following at least one warning, for rules infringements.
Anything not covered that requires a ruling will be subject to an arbitrary GM ruling, which will then be added to the rules list.
