THE AVARIEL
Based in a single city at the top of a high mountain peak known as Aerilspire, the Avariel are a race of winged elves. The Avariel are like normal elves, only a lot more flighty and less relaxed. They love to fly, and hate spending time on the ground (or even worse - beneath the ground - they are heavily cllaustrophobic).
Physically, the Avariel are slightly smaller than normal elves, with bird-like, hollow bones. This reduction in weight makes it possible for their huge feathered wings to carry them aloft. The wings are also excellent for keeping the Avariel warm when they rest too. Like birds, they have excellent eyesight, even more than other elves.
The Avariel tend to wear simple, no-nonsense leather clothes, with multiple straps for carrying equipment rather than anything as useless to them as a backpack.
The Avariel are a lot less haughty than other types of elves. Dependent on comforting touches, they form very close relationships very easily, and can become emotionally dependent on a partner. If by some chance this partner is killed, or there is an enforced separation the Avariel experiences a long term of mental depression and even physical pain at times, above and beyond that experienced by other races.
They are very good archers, and specialise in weather magic in general. However, in melee they tend to find themselves outmatched by most opponents due to a lack of physical strength caused by a lighter bone structure and even slimmer features than surface elves.
