AQUATIC ELVES

She
gave up on frogs...
Aquatic Elves were the product of a jealous fit of Evinia, who saw the elves, dwarves and humans spreading out across the land mass of Erythia. She caused the shipwreck of an elven flotilla, then gave the elves a rather one-sided deal - they could either dwell forever beneath the waves, or drown. Unsurprisingly, nearly all chose to live (although some tales say that those that could not contemplate such a new life were teleported to the nearest beach).
There is little that can be classified as definite fact regarding the aquatic elves - their capital city, the only habitation known to the surface world, is apparently a beautiful coral city called Alta Arichan, which is said to mean 'Water Castle'. A monarchic society, their ruling family is supposed to be descended from the admiral of the fleet lost at sea, who was a younger cousin of an elven ruler, the exact details being lost in the shrouds of time.
Their culture is extremely isolationist, and few believed in their existence until the last Divine Struggle, when a combined force of aquatic elves, mermen and sahuagin assaulted a pirate fleet while it lay at anchor and slaughtered nearly all, only one ship escaping the massacre.
The aquatic elves resemble normal elves, but for the differences in colouration to allow for camouflage and the gills and webbed hands and feet to allow for improved swimming. They are fantastic swimmers, but rarely venture onto land so struggle there.
